The Langeland Fault System unravelled: Quaternary fault reactivation along an elevated basement block between the North German and Norwegian–Danish basins

چکیده

The reactivation of faults and possible impact on barrier integrity marks a critical aspect for investigations subsurface usage capabilities. Glacial isostatic adjustments, originating from repeated Quaternary glaciations northern Europe, cause tectonic stresses pre-existing fault systems structural elements the North German Norwegian–Danish basins. Notably, our current understanding dynamics scales glacially induced is rather limited. A high-resolution 2D seismic data set recently acquired offshore northeastern Langeland Island allows investigation graben system termed Fault System. Seismo-stratigraphic interpretation reflection in combination with diffraction imaging unravels spatial character System along an elevated basement block Ringkøbing–Fyn High. In sediment echosounder data, helps to visualize continuation deep-rooted up sea floor. Initial Mesozoic faulting occurred during Triassic. Late Cretaceous inversion reactivated flanking southern border High while absent Here, normal Maastrichtian–Danian. Detection of fault segments based on P–T dihedra analysis along the North Tabriz fault, NW Iran

Detection of fault segments is an essential step for tracking main transverse faults. General observations from field studies as well as attitude measurements can give an overall understanding of the lengths of the segments, but these are not always sufficient to accurately identify and characterize them. In this study, we analyze P–T dihedra variations based on their eigenvalues to detect faul...

A comparison between the Kazerun (Iran) and the North Anatolian (Turkey) fault systems in fault interaction and seismicity migration based on the spatiotemporal analysis of earthquakes

The Kazerun Fault System (KFS) is a right-lateral strike slip fault system in the middle part of the Zagros seismogenic zone in Iran. Historical and instrumental earthquake data catalogs of this fault system show good evidence of fault interactions and seismic migrations. This study provides evidence for the migration of seismicity in the middle part of the Zagros region along the segments of t...

An Evaluation of Rock Integrity and Fault Reactivation in the Cap Rock and Reservoir Rock Due to Pressure Variations

Cap rocks are dams which can prevent the upward movement of hydrocarbons. They have disparities and weaknesses including discontinuities, crushed areas, and faults. Gas injection is an effective mechanism for oil recovery and pore pressure. With increasing pore pressure, normal stress is reduced, and the integrity of impermeable boundaries (cap rock, fault, etc.) becomes instable. A successful ...

Quaternary volcanism in Tabas and the role of the Nayband great fault

Introduction: Quaternary basalts are one of the last signs of magmatism in Iran, some of which are related to deep fractures and active faults in the Quaternary. Quaternary basalts of Tabas are very important due to their high expansion and location in eastern Iran, and are located 140 km south east of Tabas city and according to the proposed divisions are part of the Lut zone. The aim of this...
